Job Title: Insurance Accounting Specialist (Accounts Payable & Commissions)

 

Job Summary

An established and growing insurance organization is seeking an experienced Insurance Accounting Specialist to support core payable and commission accounting functions across one or more agency entities. This senior individual contributor role is responsible for vendor payables, producer commissions, and agency bill transactions while ensuring compliance with internal controls, carrier requirements, and audit standards. The position requires strong insurance agency accounting experience and hands-on proficiency with Applied Epic, with the ability to independently manage complex workflows across multiple entities.

 

Responsibilities

  • Process and manage vendor invoices across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, proper coding, and timely payment
  • Reconcile vendor statements and independently resolve discrepancies
  • Maintain vendor records, payment schedules, and supporting documentation
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including payable accruals
  • Prepare, calculate, and process producer and agency commission statements
  • Ensure commission calculations align with producer agreements and applicable arrangements
  • Investigate and resolve commission discrepancies in collaboration with internal teams
  • Maintain accurate and auditable commission documentation
  • Oversee outsourced agency bill service provider related to carrier and premium transactions
  • Apply and reconcile agency bill activity within Applied Epic
  • Support agency bill account reconciliations and variance resolution
  • Utilize Applied Epic for agency bill and commission workflows
  • Process payables using automation tools such as Ramp (or similar systems)
  • Generate payable, commission, and agency bill reports as needed
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready financial records
  • Document procedures and ensure consistent execution across entities

 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 5+ years of accounting or accounts payable experience within an insurance agency or brokerage required
  • Multi-entity or multi-office agency experience strongly preferred
  • Hands-on Applied Epic experience required
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent insurance agency accounting experience may substitute
  • Experience with AP automation platforms such as Ramp preferred
  • Strong understanding of insurance commission structures and agency bill workflows
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and resolve issues with minimal oversight
  • Advanced Excel and accounting system proficiency
  • Strong documentation and process management skills

 

Compensation Package

  • Base salary typically ranging from $65,000 – $85,000, commensurate with experience
  • Discretionary bonus target of approximately 5% – 10% of base salary
