Position Summary:
We are seeking a Commercial Placement Specialist to join our team in Richmond, Virginia. This role is responsible for marketing, quoting, and binding new commercial business. The Placement Specialist will cultivate strong relationships with both carrier underwriters and agent members, serving as a key liaison and delivering exceptional service.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate incoming new business submissions and triage appropriately. Determine viability based on business class, timing, risk profile, and standard vs. non-standard markets.

  • Market both new and renewal accounts according to the applicant’s risk profile and location. Prepare and deliver carrier proposals to members.

  • Build strong relationships with members in your assigned region. Collaborate with Regional Sales Directors/Leaders to uncover cross-selling opportunities.

  • Stay current on underwriting practices, carrier appetites, insurance regulations, and industry best practices. Educate agents and clients on appropriate coverages and pricing strategies.

  • Maintain a proactive follow-up system to track quotes, correspondence, and outstanding items, ensuring timely binding of new policies.

  • Keep digital files organized in accordance with our standard operating procedures.

  • Deliver prompt, courteous, and professional service to all our members and carrier partners.

  • Contribute toward individual and team premium goals.

  • Assist with other projects or duties as assigned by management.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field preferred; or equivalent experience (8+ years) in commercial insurance.

  • At least 5 years of commercial lines insurance experience required.

  • Must hold a valid P&C license; additional designations (e.g., CIC, CRM, CPCU) are a plus.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM platforms. Experience with Applied Epic is a plus.

  • Strong understanding of insurance coverages and carrier markets.
