Middle Market Commercial Underwriter

Job Summary

Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Middle Market Commercial Underwriter to join a growing team. This position plays a critical role in expanding commercial product lines and ensuring the success of underwriting operations.

Compensation Package

  • Salary Range: $70,000 - $140,000 annually

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and underwrite middle market commercial insurance risks, with a focus on workers' compensation and other commercial lines.
  • Analyze and interpret state and NCCI workers' compensation manuals, guidelines, rating elements, and competitive landscapes.
  • Develop and maintain loss-sensitive rating programs.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure underwriting decisions align with company goals and risk appetite.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agents, brokers, and other stakeholders.
  • Utilize advanced Microsoft Excel and other tools to analyze data and make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to maintain a competitive edge.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, marketing, business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of workers' compensation or commercial line underwriting experience.
  • Strong preference for candidates with commercial underwriting experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of state and NCCI workers' compensation manuals, guidelines, and rating elements.
  • Experience with loss-sensitive rating programs.
  • Professional certifications such as CPCU, ARM, CIC, or similar are highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills required.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
