Production Underwriter - Commercial Lines (Texas)
Job Summary
Seeking a dynamic and experienced Production Underwriter specializing in Commercial Lines to join a team. This role is pivotal in growing a commercial property and casualty book of business by fostering strong, productive relationships with assigned agencies.
Compensation Package
- Salary Range: $95,000 - $110,000 (depending on experience) + annual performance-based bonus

Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with assigned agencies through regular in-person visits, promoting brand awareness, and fostering professional and personal connections.
- Develop and manage a pipeline of profitable new business opportunities for each agency and producer.
- Evaluate risks and make critical underwriting decisions based on operations, geographic location, risk controls, pricing, terms, and third-party data.
- Collaborate with Risk Control to address recommended risk improvements for newly written accounts.
- Work with renewal underwriters to address key and challenging renewal accounts, ensuring mutually beneficial outcomes for agency partners and the company.
- Set premiums for new business opportunities and assist in achieving pricing objectives for renewal business.
- Train agency personnel on the use of the company’s agency portal and assist with inputting new business opportunities as needed.
- Identify and secure facultative reinsurance on risks when appropriate.
- Stay updated on technical aspects of commercial insurance underwriting and relevant state and local laws.
- Provide education and training to agents on commercial insurance issues and assist with policyholder presentations as needed.
- Accompany Loss Control representatives on inspections as required.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including reinsurers, co-workers, and agencies.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting.
- In-depth knowledge of commercial lines products and coverages.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and customer service skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% of the time.
- Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
- CPCU designation and other supplemental insurance education are highly desirable.
- Field sales/marketing experience is a plus.
