Senior Benefits Consultant – Health & Welfare Benefits
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Senior Benefits Consultant to lead and deliver strategic consulting services across a broad portfolio of Health & Welfare benefits programs. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional that thrives on building client relationships, leading teams, and shaping long-term benefits strategies in a dynamic consulting environment.
Compensation Package
- Salary Range: $170,000 - $220,000 (commensurate with experience) + discretionary bonus

Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary consultant and relationship manager for assigned client groups.
- Lead consulting engagements across medical, pharmacy, dental, life, disability, vision, FSA/HSA, voluntary benefits, and reinsurance.
- Drive claims analysis, renewal strategy, and financial modeling to support long-term client decision-making.
- Manage RFPs, vendor searches, and carrier negotiations on behalf of clients.
- Oversee plan implementations, open enrollment strategies, and employee communications.
- Present complex financial and compliance topics clearly to client leadership teams.
- Identify cost drivers, utilization trends, benchmarking insights, and plan design opportunities.
- Stay current on healthcare marketplace trends, ACA requirements, and regulatory changes.
- Mentor and develop junior consultants and analysts.
- Support client development and growth efforts, including finalist presentations and conferences.
Qualifications/Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- 15+ years of experience in health & welfare consulting, brokerage, or carrier environments.
- Deep expertise in group health plan strategy, pricing, and financial analysis.
- Proven success managing complex client relationships and multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong presentation, communication, and executive-level consulting skills.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams and mentoring junior staff.
- Working knowledge of benefits administration platforms and healthcare compliance (ACA).
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Preferred:
- CEBS designation or actuarial/underwriting training.
- Health & Life license (or ability to obtain within the first year).
- Health Exchange Agent/Broker certification (or commitment to obtain).
- Experience with unions, government, or schools is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with self-funded plans and large group accounts (2,000–20,000 lives).
