ABOUT US:

The Jonus Group is a specialized insurance staffing firm that connects top talent with industry-leading clients. We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join our client’s team in Atlanta, GA. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic team in a company that is a leader in the auto insurance space.

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for preparing journal entries in accordance with GAAP and STAT requirements as well as monthly reconciliations. Including clear documentation to support the journal entries as well as thorough consideration for variances within the reconciliations is crucial to succeeding in this role. Specifically, the role will be responsible for the monthly accrual as well as preparing compliance documentation, such as tax payments and other requests by state governments. In addition, the role will assist the team with filing financial statements, premium tax returns, and other statutory filings as required by regulatory agencies according to established deadlines. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts by understanding and documenting the account activity, including identifying variances and providing solutions to ensure the account is appropriately reconciled
  • Prepare and enter journal entries into the general ledger and banking module with clear documentation to support the amounts
  • Assist with the preparation of the financial statements and other regulatory compliance items, including providing support for the auditors to consider
  • Coordinate with the team to ensure that compliance requirements are met, including taking ownership of a portion of the premium tax returns and keeping the compliance calendar up-to-date.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High-level communication skills, especially in asking clear questions
  • Organized and strong attention to detail, especially in understanding that cents matter
  • Ability to prioritize in order to meet deadlines
  • Desire to proactively engage with the team to meet deadlines
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel: formulas (e.g. sumif and xlookup) and pivot tables

 

 

PREFERRED

  • 1 year of experience
  • Experience using accounting software, especially Workday
