Job Summary:
 
Our Client is looking to add a Vice President of Underwriting to their P&C Operations. This person will be responsible for ensuring underwriting policies and procedures align with the overall business strategy and that the underwriting team is operating at peak efficiency. This role will require a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, extensive experience in underwriting, and a track record of driving results.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement underwriting policies and procedures that align with overall business strategy
  • Ensure that the underwriting team is operating at peak efficiency by setting and monitoring performance metrics
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure that underwriting policies are up-to-date and compliant
  • Work with and assist leadership in identifying and executing strategies to achieve target ROE and profitability
  • Work with and assist leadership in creating and driving Underwriting strategy, ensuring a focus on profitability and growth
  • Evaluate data, productivity, and loss analyses to analyze workflow, making decisions and/or recommendations if patterns detected or solutions needed to the workflow and Underwriting strategy
  • Provide recommendations of Underwriting philosophies and guidelines for risk assessment and selection.
  • Oversee the implementation and execution of Underwriting and referral guidelines, submission requirement documents, and binding authority documents. 
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the risk assessment process through audit programs, actuarial statistics, and claims analysis. 
  • Partner with the field management and field advisories group to develop profitable growth solutions meeting clients’ needs
  • Drive operational excellence through modernization and improvements within the Underwriting platforms and workflows
  • Manage assigned leaders, including mentoring, coaching, performance reviews, clearing obstacles and prioritization of tasks
  • Manage work activities, performance, and development of Underwriting staff
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience in underwriting, with at least 10 years in a leadership role
  • Excellent knowledge of all property & casualty lines of business 
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as business, finance, or insurance
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • CPCU or MBA Preferred
 
Salary/Benefits:
  • $200,000 to $220,000 annual salary
