Insurance Accounting Lead

Seeking an Insurance Accounting Lead to support the development of foundational accounting processes, controls, and tools to enable continued growth and scalability. This role focuses on accounting and reporting, documenting and mapping key processes, and partnering with cross-functional teams on ad-hoc projects and initiatives. The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic, evolving environments and is comfortable taking ownership of unstructured projects from start to finish. Strong Excel skills and experience working with large data sets are essential, along with the ability to analyze results, investigate discrepancies, and identify anomalies. Prior insurance industry experience is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day transactions related to the general ledger, revenue recognition, financial reporting, and payables and receivables

  • Lead monthly accounting close and reconciliation processes

  • Increase financial reporting accuracy and efficiency through targeted process improvements

  • Develop strong internal controls and accounting process/policy documentation

  • Create and maintain detailed financial reporting for senior management, third party partners, and regulatory agencies

  • Ensure that records are maintained according to IFRS and Statutory accounting principles

  • Manage the annual audit process, the regulatory financial exam, and assist with other ad hoc requests regarding to the financial aspects of the entities in charge

Qualifications, Education, & Experience:

  • 5 to 8 years of progressive accounting experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business

  • CPA preferred

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills

  • Ability to manage large and complex data sets

  • Ability to work without direct supervision and efficiently manage tasks and meet deadlines

  • Public accounting experience

  • Experience with Oracle

  • Experience with SQL and database querying

  • A background in insurance or other regulated categories
