Professional Lines Underwriting Assistant – Remote (Southeast)

An established and growing Wholesale MGA is seeking an Underwriting Assistant to join their team. This position supports underwriters in the assessment and processing of insurance policies, primarily within a wholesale setting. The role is critical in streamlining the underwriting process, ensuring that applications and documentation meet requirements for timely and accurate decision-making.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and process insurance applications, renewals, and endorsements.
  • Accurately enter policy and client information into the agency management system.
  • Organize and maintain client files, policy documentation, and supporting materials.
  • Assist underwriters by gathering information for risk analysis and policy pricing.
  • Prepare quotes, proposals, and binders for review.
  • Support premium calculations, policy issuance, and other underwriting tasks.
  • Act as a point of contact between underwriters, agents, and brokers to provide updates and gather additional information.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to resolve issues or discrepancies.
  • Ensure prompt and professional communication with clients, brokers, and carriers.
  • Monitor renewal dates and ensure timely preparation of renewal documentation.
  • Process endorsements, modifications, and cancellations in accordance with guidelines.
  • Ensure all documents and processes comply with regulatory and company standards.
  • Maintain underwriting reports and track key metrics, application statuses, and policy data.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, handling correspondence, and maintaining records.
  • Assist in special projects as assigned by underwriting or management.

 

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in insurance underwriting or administrative roles, especially in a wholesale or commercial environment, is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with insurance software preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and assist in risk assessment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong data accuracy.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
