Gene grew up on Long Island, where he was valedictorian of his high school class. He then went to the University of Virginia and obtained a degree in Commerce. He spent 2 years with Coopers and Lybrand, but quickly learning that he wanted a more people-oriented career. His goal was to parlay this experience into recruiting account and finance professionals, but wound up in the insurance recruiting field partially by accident. After spending 23 years with a couple of recruiting firms, at which he was consistently a top biller, Gene joined forces with one of his associates, Pete Joniec, to create The Jonus Group in 2012.
While the company started off with just Gene, Pete, a couple of phones, and a phonebook, it quickly grew to where it is now: with over 40 colleagues recruiting across the country. His depth of knowledge in the field and permanent smile have helped create a different kind of recruiting firm – one that focuses on helping everyone do better together.
In what little free time he has, Gene enjoys long distance running, bowling (he actually has a 300 game to his credit), managing rental real estate, and spending time at the Jersey shore with his family, friends, and his enormous 10-year-old Great Dane.
