A reputable insurance organization is seeking a Senior Surety Underwriting Manager to lead underwriting operations and drive profitable portfolio performance. This individual will oversee risk evaluation, support strategic initiatives, and guide a team of underwriters in delivering high‑quality service and sound risk decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze financial and business documents essential to underwriting, including credit reports, bank agreements, and financial statements.
- Lead risk selection, pricing, retention strategy, and growth efforts to ensure profitability for the assigned branch or region.
- Assess and maintain risk quality in alignment with underwriting guidelines and company standards.
- Review underwriting submissions prepared by others and provide recommendations for extending surety credit, including terms and conditions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, agents, brokers, and other external stakeholders.
- Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Manage multiple priorities with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Provide outstanding customer service with a proactive, solutions‑driven approach.
- Make timely, informed, and well‑reasoned underwriting decisions.
- Demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and accountability in all business activities.
- Use independent judgment and initiative to support and advance business objectives.
- Lead, coach, and develop team members to achieve individual and organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Preferred Fields of Study: Finance, Accounting, Business, or related disciplines.
- Experience:
- 9+ years of relevant experience within surety, underwriting, or financial analysis
- 4+ years of management or team leadership experience
- Preferred Certifications: Progress toward or completion of professional designations such as:
- Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding (AFSB)
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU)
Location: Nashville, Chicago, Cincinnati
Compensation: $150,000- $210,000
