Contract Surety Manager
Seeking an experienced Contract Surety Manager to lead underwriting activity and drive profitable growth across the Mid-Atlantic region. This role is responsible for evaluating contractor financials, managing risk selection, developing strategic relationships, and coaching a high-performing underwriting team.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze underwriting information including financial statements, bank agreements, credit reports, and contractor performance data.
- Oversee all aspects of risk selection, pricing, growth, retention, and profitability for the assigned branch.
- Ensure risk quality and underwriting decisions comply with company guidelines.
- Review the work of other underwriters and provide recommendations on surety credit terms and conditions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with agents, brokers, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Communicate effectively and operate with a high degree of professionalism and integrity.
- Provide exceptional customer service and make timely, informed underwriting decisions.
- Use independent judgment to support business goals and drive operational excellence.
- Lead, coach, and develop underwriting staff while holding the team accountable for business objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field—or equivalent work experience.
- 7+ years of contract surety or related underwriting experience required.
- Progress toward professional designations preferred (e.g., AFSB, CPA, RPLU).
- Strong financial analysis skills, including evaluating contractor financials and creditworthiness.
- Excellent organizational, decision-making, and relationship‑management capabilities.
