Manager of Reinsurance Accounting
Seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to lead the financial reporting and accounting operations related to reinsurance activities across U.S. business units. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, a deep understanding of reinsurance agreements, and the ability to work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders.
Location: Chicago, IL
Salary: $130K - $170K
Schedule: On-site 5 days/week
Responsibilities:
- Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for reinsurance accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.
- Manage the preparation of reinsurance reporting schedules for Statutory Annual Statements.
- Review and interpret both new and renewal reinsurance contracts to ensure appropriate accounting treatment and system configuration.
- Review and prepare bordereau reports for submission to external reinsurance markets in a timely and accurate manner.
- Prepare and deliver ad hoc management reports and financial analyses to support decision-making.
- Mentor staff, sharing knowledge and building a culture of continuous improvement.
- Support internal and external audit processes by providing timely and accurate documentation and responses.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) internal control requirements.
- Ad hoc projects and additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in insurance or reinsurance accounting, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
- Experience with reinsurance agreements and related financial systems; working knowledge of reinsurance software is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
