Job Title: Accountant II – Tax Compliance

Seeking an Accountant with federal tax experience. This role is responsible for analyzing, interpreting, and making decisions on a wide variety of complex federal tax and financial compliance matters. The position will provide timely and accurate financial and tax information to management, tax authorities, regulatory agencies, and auditors.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review tax workpapers for insurance entities, C corporations, and partnerships.
  • Prepare annual and quarterly statutory financial statement tax provisions.
  • Apply ASC 740 and SSAP 101 to relevant fact patterns.
  • Prepare and coordinate state premium tax returns, municipal tax returns, sales and use tax filings, personal property tax returns, and insurance surcharges.
  • Research federal and state tax matters and make recommendations based on findings.
  • Identify and implement efficiency and technology improvements to enhance tax processes.
  • Assist in developing training materials.
  • Respond to federal, state, and local tax notices and related correspondence.
  • Calculate tax estimates and accruals.
  • Prepare or review tax journal entries.

 

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration with an emphasis in accounting.
  • 2–3 years of insurance corporate tax experience or public accounting experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
  • Professional designations such as CPCU or AIAF are a plus.
  • Familiarity with tax software and research tools is desired.
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 740, SSAP 101, insurance taxation, and partnership taxation.
  • Understanding of state corporate tax, premium tax, and policyholder surcharges.
  • Strong analytical, research, and process improvement skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, sound judgment, and effective communication abilities.

  • Salary range: $75K–$85K, plus bonus.
