Commercial Underwriter
Position Overview
The Commercial Underwriter is responsible for underwriting new and renewal business, processing endorsements, and re-underwriting existing commercial accounts. This role involves maintaining strong relationships with agency partners, supporting growth and profitability objectives, and ensuring underwriting decisions align with established guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Review incoming applications, binders, and correspondence to determine compliance with underwriting criteria.
- Approve or decline risks in accordance with guidelines.
- Communicate with agency partners regarding new business, renewals, endorsements, rates, inspections, and underwriting recommendations.
- Process, rate, and underwrite new submissions, endorsements, and re-underwritten accounts.
- Support underwriting leadership by suggesting improvements to procedures, guidelines, and manuals, and assisting with training initiatives.
- Deliver presentations on underwriting topics and participate in agency meetings when needed.
- Assist in achieving growth and profitability goals by analyzing agency performance, recommending action plans, and participating in reviews.
- Provide training to agency personnel on products, rating methods, and systems.
- Contribute to product development and testing initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and/or relevant business experience (minimum of 2 years preferred).
- Professional designations or coursework in commercial underwriting (e.g., AINS) preferred but not required.
- Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in commercial lines underwriting procedures and insurance policy forms.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong computer skills and accuracy in data processing.
Compensation Package
- Compensation: Between $70K-$100K (based on experience).
