Director of Premium Accounting
San Antonio, TX. - Hybrid schedule
Overview
The Director of Premium Accounting will oversee all aspects of premium billing, reconciliation, and financial reporting across a multi-client environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and scalability of premium accounting operations while leading a team and driving process improvements.
This is a high-impact leadership role with visibility across finance, operations, and client-facing teams.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team responsible for premium accounting operations
- Establish performance metrics and ensure accountability across the function
- Partner with senior leadership to support business growth and scalability
Premium Billing & Reconciliation
- Oversee end-to-end premium billing processes across multiple client accounts
- Ensure accurate invoicing, collections, and reconciliation of premium payments
- Manage complex billing structures and high-volume transactional activity
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal and state regulations
- Support internal and external audits
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
- Implement process enhancements and automation where applicable
- Maintain strong internal controls to mitigate risk
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with operations, client services, and implementation teams
- Act as an escalation point for complex billing or reconciliation issues
- Support onboarding of new clients and programs from a financial perspective
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 8+ years of accounting experience, with a focus on billing, premium accounting, or revenue operations
- 2+ years of leadership experience managing teams
- Experience within insurance, benefits administration, TPA, or healthcare strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience in high-volume, multi-entity or multi-client environments
