Job Title: Senior Accountant
A growing insurance organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Finance Reporting team. This role will assist with maintaining accurate financial records by inputting transactions, verifying ledgers, and producing timely management reports. The position will also involve researching, interpreting, and communicating information related to financial statements, budgeting, and reinsurance matters. An active CPA designation is required.
Responsibilities:
- Document, compute, and process reinsurance transactions; review claims activity for potential reinsurance applications; calculate and record reinsurance payables and recoveries.
- Assist in compiling and reporting the annual budget, including consolidating departmental input and calculating corporate budget items.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, reinsurance reports, and other filings required by state insurance departments.
- Conduct reinsurance calculations and reconcile results, researching discrepancies and resolving issues related to the Reinsurance Masterfile.
- Provide analysis to support negotiations of new or modified reinsurance contracts.
- Assist in maintaining corporate insurance policies, lease financing activity, and business continuity planning.
- Represent the finance department on committees related to financial systems or reinsurance programs.
- Prepare and file tax payments, premium tax returns, sales and use tax statements, and other premium-related reports.
- Review invoices and journal entries for proper accounting and authorization; scan supporting documentation for retention.
- Perform monthly reconciliations, accrual transactions, and budget uploads as needed, analyzing variances and recording correcting entries.
- Record affiliate reimbursement and chargeback transactions, ensuring accuracy, authorization, and resolution of discrepancies.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration (with an accounting emphasis).
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
- 3–5 years of relevant business, insurance, or related experience.
- Experience in insurance accounting strongly preferred.
- MBA, CPCU, AIAF, or ARe designations preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated budgetary and business planning abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
