Job description

Seeking a diligent and experienced Commercial Underwriter to join a team. The Commercial Underwriter will be responsible for assessing and analyzing insurance applications for commercial clients, evaluating risks, and determining appropriate coverage and premiums. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and a deep understanding of commercial insurance policies and regulations.

Job Description

 

  • Evaluate, quote, and negotiate pricing for new and renewal applications, including coverage changes during the policy term.

  • Analyze risks in alignment with company guidelines, ISO, NCCI, statutory requirements, and coverage forms.

  • Manage and develop agency relationships, including prospecting, appointments, performance reviews, and potential terminations.

  • Travel as needed to maintain territory, build relationships, and support sales/marketing efforts.

  • Solicit new business and retain renewals through effective presentations to agencies and customers.

  • Achieve profitable underwriting results by setting and meeting premium, loss ratio, and growth targets.

  • Maintain a strong knowledge of corporate, regulatory, and competitive market changes.

  • Coordinate with internal teams to promote risk control, claims, and premium audit service plans.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Insurance, Risk Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).

  • Minimum 5+ years’ underwriting experience with expertise in:

    • Field Underwriting: Construction, Oil & Gas, Forest Products, Manufacturing

    • New & Renewal Business Underwriting: Pricing and commercial lines policy forms

    • Risk Analysis & Exposure Management

    • Agency Management and Development

    • External Sales & Relationship Building
