Job Description: Underwriting Manager - MGA
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced and motivated Underwriting Manager to join a team working within the MGA space. In this role, you will lead a team of underwriters, develop underwriting strategies, and oversee portfolio performance across multiple lines of business. You will collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure underwriting profitability, compliance, and quality standards are met. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a customer-centric approach.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of underwriters, providing mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
- Develop and execute underwriting strategies that align with business objectives and ensure portfolio profitability.
- Oversee risk assessments, analyze underwriting data, and review cases to ensure sound decision-making.
- Collaborate with clients, brokers, and business partners to build and maintain strong relationships.
- Monitor compliance with regulatory and company guidelines, addressing any gaps or risks in a timely manner.
- Conduct audits to ensure underwriting quality, consistency, and adherence to best practices.
- Work closely with the analytics team to evaluate policies, pricing structures, and market trends.
- Drive innovation by assessing new products, systems, and processes to optimize service delivery.
- Prepare reports on underwriting performance, including loss ratios, renewal rates, and key financial metrics.
- Advocate for continuous improvement in underwriting policies and procedures to adapt to a dynamic market environment.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field (advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred, e.g., CPCU, ARM).
- 5-7 years of underwriting experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or management role.
- Comprehensive MGA experience with expertise across multiple product lines.
- Strong understanding of policy language, market conditions, regulatory requirements, and risk analysis techniques.
- Proven ability to build, lead, and inspire high-performing teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and negotiation abilities for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in using underwriting systems and analytics tools.
Compensation Package
- Compensation: Between $110k-$150k (based on experience).
