Overview


Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Complex Environmental Claims Examiner to join their specialized claims team. This role is responsible for managing a portfolio of highly complex environmental claims, including pollution liability, toxic tort, Superfund (CERCLA), and long-tail coverage matters. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to navigate high-severity, high-exposure claims with strategic precision.

Job Description

  1. Manage a caseload of high-exposure, complex environmental claims from inception through resolution.
  2. Analyze coverage, determine liability, and develop effective claim resolution strategies.
  3. Handle litigation management, including oversight of outside counsel and expert witnesses.
  4. Evaluate settlement opportunities and negotiate resolutions in alignment with company guidelines.
  5. Ensure compliance with internal policies, industry regulations, and applicable state/federal laws.
  6. Collaborate with underwriting, actuarial, and senior leadership on emerging claim trends.
  7. Prepare detailed reports and communicate claim status, strategy, and exposure to senior management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; JD or CPCU/AIC designations strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years of environmental claims handling experience, with demonstrated expertise in complex coverage and litigation management.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental liability, toxic tort, and regulatory frameworks (EPA, state-level agencies, Superfund).
  • Proven track record of handling multi-party, multi-jurisdictional claims.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and provide strategic guidance on complex matters.
