General Liability Claims Specialist
Job Summary
Seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Liability Claims Specialist to join a team. This role involves managing complex claims with significant damages and exposures, ensuring accurate and equitable settlements, and maintaining compliance with company policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in handling general liability claims, including professional liability, and possess a deep understanding of coverage and policy language. This is an onsite position requiring a presence at one of the office locations four days per week.
Compensation Package
- Base Salary: $90,000 - $110,000 per year
- Profit-Sharing Bonus: 10% - 15% (historically 12.5%-15% over the last three years) after six months of employment
- Paid Time Off (PTO):
- Year 1-2: 20 days
- Year 3-7: 25 days
- Year 8+: 30 days
- Paid Holidays: Over 17 company holidays annually
- Volunteer Days: Time off for school trips, charity work, etc.
- Annual Merit Increase: Minimum of 3%, based on performance
- 401(k) Plan: 4% company match

Responsibilities
- Independently investigate, determine liability/compensability, and adjust claims with significant damages and/or exposures.
- Manage a caseload of 100-120 claims, with 70% or more in litigation.
- Maintain accurate and adequate loss and expense reserves.
- Handle coverage questions and issue Reservation of Rights when necessary.
- Ensure prompt and equitable settlements in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Provide support for accounts including municipalities, schools, churches, EMS, water companies, and long-term health facilities.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience handling general liability claims, with a preference for professional liability (e.g., D&O, Med Mal, EPL).
- Strong knowledge of coverage and policy language, including experience with Reservation of Rights.
- Litigation experience is highly desirable.
- At least one state Adjuster’s license is preferred (Texas license is ideal); candidates without a license must obtain one upon hire.
- Experience in a carrier, TPA, or self-insured environment is acceptable.
- A stable work history with at least 4+ years at previous companies is required.
